Why should Saskatchewan Residents Pay PST on USED Vehicles?
Well, Why the hell are we paying PST on USED products?
So you've found the car of your dreams, but it just happens
to be across the border in Alberta. Bend over and get ready to take it in the
ass. The Saskatchewan government is going to fuck you deep and hard. The minute
you try to put plates on that car the government is going to reach into your
pants and pull out another 5% tax on top of what you have already paid.
Excuse me for saying so, but why is the government taxing used products. you
don't pay tax at a garage sale do you? Seriously I don't know, are you supposed
to send in the tax for those purchases?
Even private vehicle sales are taxed. Cmon people, stand up against this crap.
When you have worked and saved for years to buy that car do you really
want to hear that you can just fork over another 5%.
The
Saskatchewan Parties plan to eliminate PST on used light vehicles is fine but
read the fine print. That only includes light vehicles that have had the tax
previously paid in full. So the vehicle you brought in form Alberta is taxed,
the leased car you want to buy out is taxed.
I
can't believe that Saskatchewan residents tolerate this kind of abuse. Its bad
enough we have to pay PST on all new purchases.
There
isn't really any way around this, but I can show you how to save some of the
PST on your next vehicle purchase. Red More.
SGI Vehicle Inspection Program Is a Joke
If you have purchased a vehicle from out of province you will already be
familiar with the hassle of having to get your car inspected. Don't get me
wrong I'm not against vehicle inspections at all. I am against a vehicle
inspection program that is so loosely monitored, enforced and regulated.
Why is that we need to inspect new vehicles coming from out
of province? Was there a problem with it on the dealer’s lot in Manitoba or
Alberta? I can understand the desire to inspect older cars due to safety concerns.
So why is it that provincial vehicle inspection are limited only to cars coming
into Saskatchewan? Does it not occur to SGI that there may already be licensed
vehicles on the road that are unsafe?
That's just the beginning of the problem. Now you have to find a reputable auto
shop that is SGI certified and can perform the inspection for you. Ohh did I
say reputable, your right, there is no such things as a reputable auto repair
shop. While your vehicle is being inspected the mechanic has a loose set of guidelines
to follow on what is to be inspected and how to perform the inspection. But do
you really think that Joe mechanic under his hoist is going to follow how the
SGI inspection manual says to test vehicle components. Nope, he's going to use
his old tire kicker technique and then assume that something needs to be
replaced when in fact he has no idea because the component was not tested
properly.
Now you are stuck with a shop telling you what you need to
replace to get your car licensed. Don't like what that shop has to say, well
too fucking bad, your choice is to roll down the road to another shop and pay
for another inspection or bend over and take it like a man.
Wait there is a third option, it's not the best but at least
you do have some recourse against that dishonest hole you've brought your car
into.
The vehicle inspection sheet you’re used to seeing is just a loose guide for
what to inspect on your vehicle. There is a full manual that all Safety
Officers working for SGI use as a guide for these vehicle inspections. The
manual is called the "Certified Technicians Safety Inspection Manual” You
have the right to obtain a copy of this manual from SGI. Although they will try
to tell you differently, just give Vehicle Standards & Inspection - Motor
Vehicle Division at SGI a call. (306) 683 2193. If you think your vehicle
inspection has not been done properly in any way the Safety Officers at SGI
will come down the shop your car is at and perform an inspection of their own.
How can we improve Saskatchewan? Simple eliminate the
vehicle inspections or move the vehicle inspections to a SGI controlled
facility where SGI trained and employed technicians follow exact standards and
perform the inspection. SGI technicians can then provide a list of replacement
parts or changes needed to pass the inspection and you can have the work done
at a shop of your choice.
